The Stockholm arbitration banned the termination of the airport concession contract

The Stockholm Arbitration Court banned the termination of the Chisinau Airport concession contract. According to a press release issued by Avia Invest, a provisional decision in this regard was announced by the International Court of Arbitration in Stockholm yesterday, August 2nd.

"The Court of Arbitration forbade the Republic of Moldova to carry out actions to terminate the contract until the final decision and prohibited any execution of the notification of termination of the concession sent to the company on July 8, 2020," reads the statement.

According to Avia Invest, the airport manager and his shareholders welcome the decision of the Stockholm Court and inform that they have never pursued such a development of events.

"The company reiterates that it has always been and remains open to a civilized legal dialogue with the authorities on any issue, but will not allow dialogue from a position of strength. We hope that the common sense of the Chisinau authorities will continue to contribute to the settlement of the conflict without the need for additional arbitration," the quoted communiqué also reads.

TRM.MD recalls that, recently, the concessionaire of Chisinau International Airport sued the Government of the Republic of Moldova and appealed to the International Court of Arbitration. Avia Invest claims damages of 885 million euros. Then, the Public Property Agency declared that the damage requested by the concessionaire company of Chisinau International Airport was unjustified.

So far, the Chisinau authorities have not come up with any reaction to the decision of the Stockholm International Arbitration Court.
