New support program for young entrepreneurs, launched

A new state support program for young entrepreneurs was launched. The " START for YOUTH: A Sustainable Business at Home " program is to be implemented by 2020, with at least 250 businesses being funded with 80 percent. In total, over 1,000 young people will be trained and supported in the process of generating business ideas, Moldova 1 TV reports.

Young entrepreneurs say it would be hard for them to operate and activate on the market without state support.

"I grow fowl, mostly for meat and for collecting feathers and then making pillows, duvets. I want to develop my business, that is why, I want to participate in this program”, said Ana Enache, entrepreneur.

"We have been working in the IT field for 2 years.  We are glad that the state creates such projects for young people, so that we can start businesses in our home-country", said entrepreneur Igor Streche.

"I have been a beekeeper for almost 3 years. It's hard to work in a country being young and without support, because we started the business from scratch on a credit-based basis, "says Olga Moisa, entrepreneur.

The authorities say that priority will be to support the young entrepreneurs from the villages.

"Financing business ideas, of investment projects with up to 80 percent coverage of the program by the Government of Moldova and with the contribution of only 20%  from the young person. During the piloting period, we aim to support over 250 investment projects and to train over 1,000 young people in the field of entrepreneurship, "said Petru Gurgurov, interim director of the Organization for the Development of Small and Medium Enterprises.

Young people will benefit from advisory and informational support for business development in areas such as the IT, the agro-food industry, the reconstruction of water supply and sewerage systems, tourism, services, health.

"By this program we want to facilitate the integration of Moldovan youth into the economic circuit. In addition to this program, the state has come up with a number of reforms that have created a friendly business environment", said Iulia Costin, State Secretary at the Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure.

In 2019, the "START for YOUTH: A Sustainable Business at Home" National Program has a funding of 35 million lei.
