Leader for Rural Moldova project launched

A new tool to support rural development projects was launched in Moldova. This is the Leader program, which aims to renew rural areas and create more jobs in villages. The project is supported by the Polish government and the US Agency for International Development. The key players in all programs will be the so-called local action groups, Mesager reports.

"We are talking about a very profound, very necessary and long-awaited change of things in all the countries where this program is implemented and in that case in Moldova. I am confident that each of you can give many examples of successful projects, of real changes, not only in economic terms but also in people's lives ", said Bartlomiej Zdaniuc, Polish Ambassador to Moldova.

"I am glad that such platforms as the Leader approach and the establishment of Local Action Groups bring together all possible actors: local public authorities, civil society, the private sector so as to ensure transparency in all decisions that are approved, in order to prioritize projects, taking into account all aspects ", said  Dorin Andros, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment.

So far, about 30 such groups were registered in Moldova and these cover about 30% of the Moldova's rural areas.
