Several polling stations will be opened abroad for parliamentary elections

For the new parliamentary elections of October 20, 2019 in the uninominal constituency no. 50, to the west of the Republic of Moldova, a total number of 85 polling stations will be opened abroad, of which 27 in the diplomatic missions and consular offices and 58 additional sections. A decision in this regard was approved today by the Cabinet of Ministers.

"Our firm intention is to organize and offer equal opportunities to all our citizens and to organize these polling stations in an impartial political way," said Foreign Minister Nicu Popescu.

According to the minister, the number of polling stations abroad transposed in the annex of the draft Government Decision was established following a comprehensive analysis carried out by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration based on the proposals of the country's diplomatic missions and consular offices, but also the efforts of the Moldovan diaspora associations. from abroad and based on an analysis of the number of citizens who have previously voted in different localities in Europe during the 2010, 2014, 2016, 2019 elections.

Also, it was taken into account the number of citizens who had previously registered for the parliamentary elections through www.alegator.md and the record available to the official missions and data obtained from the authorities of the states of residence regarding the number and zoning of the citizens in abroad.

"Please, when determining the specific place in the localities, be careful. Last time people complained that they were far, inaccessible on public transport. Let's ensure they have free access to the vote, ”said Prime Minister Maia Sandu.

The new parliamentary elections will be held on October 20. At the elections, it will be possible to vote with expired passports, according to the last amendments of the Electoral Code.
