The films from the "Moldova-Film" archive will be scanned and digitized

The films from the "Moldova-Film" archive will be scanned and digitized, thanks to a project funded by the US Government. Thus, the representatives of the institution purchased a special scanner, modern computers and high-performance equipment to electronically convert the imposing archive, which over the years tends to deteriorate. The transition of films in digital format will allow their distribution on TV and in cinemas, both in the country and abroad, because they correspond to European and world norms, Moldova 1 reports.

"In this archive, over two thousand feature films, animations, documentaries and journals are kept. Many of these were produced 60 years ago. The films could come to life after being digitized with a scanner, and then broadcast on television and in cinemas," said Daniela Osipova, Moldova 1 reporter.

"This project is unique not only for the Moldova film studio, but also for the Republic of Moldova, as any beginning is difficult, we have passed this stage and we work with pleasure. The first stage is the digitization of the films and it is an even bigger project to preserve the patrimony of the national archive," mentioned Lidia Marcu, head of the film library and restoration.

The films are inserted into the scanner, and the images are initially reproduced using the camera. They are then subjected to the digitization process. Specialists intervene on sound, image or breakage defects.

At the end, the movies are stored on a special digital medium. For more than two months, specialists from "Moldova-Film" managed to scan over 20 films, of which 12 were digitized. In the future, thanks to a project funded by the European Union, the representatives of the institution will purchase a machine for processing and cleaning the films.

"We have good storage conditions in the archive, I'm talking about temperature, humidity, but anyway they are old and the films are still chemical, time damages them, that's why we try as hard as possible to work with these films to get a quality product. With the installation of a special washing machine for films, apart from the fact that we digitize them and transmit them on a digital medium, the films will be washed, cleaned and put in metal boxes," said Ala Grecu, administrator "Moldova-Film".

"Moldova-Film" in partnership with Moldova 1 and Moldova 2, will broadcast monthly two films from the national archive, an artistic film and a documentary.
