Four months after the fire that devastated the National Philharmonic, artists hope the building will be reborn from the ruins
A pile of ruins in the center of Chisinau. This is what the building of the "Serghei Lunchevici" National Philharmonic looks like, which was devastated by fire just four months ago. Then, in just a few hours, the city center was engulfed in smoke, and the National Philharmonic burned 80 percent. Although, so far, impressive donations have been raised for the restoration of the historic building, the experts have not decided whether the National Philharmonic will be restored, renovated or rebuilt, Moldova 1 reports.
Exactly four months after the fire, at the Philharmonic, there was a pile of ruins with blackened walls of smoke, but also demolished walls.
Even so, the renowned artists of the "Serghei Lunchevici" National Philharmonic did not give up and continue their rehearsals in the building of the Palace of the Republic. They remain optimistic and hope that the building will be reborn from the ruins with the help of bighearted people.
"I am always looking ahead and what has already happened is history, I cannot cry every day. I am very pleased with the conditions we have now. In the end, it is important that we are alive because the philharmonic was just a building and its content was the musicians," mentioned Ilona Stepan, first conductor of the academic choral chapel "Doina".
"It was much better for us, because the acoustics of the Philharmonic Hall are much more suitable, it was much more suitable for symphonic concerts and rehearsals we also held on stage, so it was much easier to work to build certain works, to build from the point to see the dynamics and the balance in the room where you are going to play," said Mihail Agafiţa, first conductor of the symphony orchestra.
According to the director of the Philharmonic, Svetlana Bivol, in a short time, the Ministry of Economy will carry out an expertise, following which the final verdict will be given - whether the building will be demolished and rebuilt from the ground up or just renovated. We could find out the answer in the spring, says the official.

TRM.MD recalls that on September 24, the National Philharmonic building was engulfed in flames. According to the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, the flames erupted from some sparks, which appeared in the process of cutting the metal pipes. So far, for the reconstruction of the building, donations amounting to 1 million 600 thousand lei have been collected on the account of the Philharmonic. The same amount was donated to the account of the Ministry of Finance.
